George Soros to Invest $300 Million to Produce Biofuel
(Treehugger) George Soros is developing bio-fuel in Santa Fe province, Argentina. The investment would be "between 250 and 300 million dollars", he informed after meeting with Soros' son -Jonathan Soros, and it would be oriented to produce bio-fuel from corn and sugar cane.
Former brewery being converted to produce fuel ethanol
(Ethanol Producer Magazine) When New York legislators banned the use of the gasoline additive MTBE, the state began its search for a suitable oxygenate replacement for its gasoline supply. Ethanol became the fuel of choice even though it needed to be shipped from out of state. That will soon change with the addition of two in-state ethanol plants, one of which is taking advantage of a unique location. Northeast Biofuels LLC recently started construction on a 100 MMgy ethanol facility at the site of a former Miller Brewing Company brewery in Fulton, N.Y.
Ethanol production set to grow in Western Canada
(Checkbiotech.org (press release)) Ethanol production in Canada's largest grain-growing province will double in 2007, a spokesman for Terra Grain Fuels Inc. said on Monday. Terra Grain Fuels' plant, valued at more than C$100 million ($90 million), is now under construction in Belle Plaine, Saskatchewan, and is expected to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2007, said President Tim LaFrance. The plant will use 400,000 tonnes of feed wheat and produce 150 million litres (40 million U.S. gallons) of ethanol annually, creating about 40 jobs, LaFrance said.
Spearfish school buses switch to biodiesel fuels
(Black Hills Pioneer) Many school districts throughout the Midwest have been involved in converting to bio-fuels, including 37 districts in Iowa that are using blends of ethanol and ordinary fuels for their school bus fleets. O2Diesel Corporation announced that the school bus and tour service provider, Dakota Trailways, of Spearfish, S.D., will begin the first of a two-phase implementation to convert its entire school and tour bus fleet to O2Diesel's proprietary ethanol-diesel fuel blend.
