Officials consider ethanol plant
Marshall County is being considered as a possible location for a closed-loop ethanol plant that would involve waste management, beef cattle production and ethanol production. Brian Barber, project development director for E3 BioFuels, Shawnee, met with the county commissioners and community members to learn about a plant being developed in Mead, Neb.
Mega nursery for jatropha bio-diesel plant to be set up in NLAQ
mega nursery for jatropha (tagumbao to the Ilocanos) is one of the projects identified to be built in the North Luzon Agribusiness Quadrangle super region. This was contained in the briefing paper for the NLAQ outlined last month here by Presidential Management Staff Director General Arthur Yap before governors, city mayors and heads of regional government line agencies. The massive planting of jatropha is being encouraged by the government to produce cheap bio-diesel fuel for vehicles to reduce consumption from costly gasoline and diesel fuel imported from the Middle East. Presently, jatropha is being planted extensively in Nueva Ecija and Pangasinan to produce seeds that can be processed into bio-diesel fuel for vehicles.
Large-scale, bio-fuel ag project offered to Molokai Ranch
In June 2006, Aloha Ethanol and Aloha Biomass Corporations made an offer to Molokai Ranch to bring large scale agriculture back to Molokai Island. The proposal was to lease approximately 9,000 acres of former pineapple lands, now fallow, to grow bio-fuel for ethanol production at a new fermentation plant near Kaunakakai. The ethanol fermentation process is not a "refinery" but more like a winery, where naturally occurring enzymes breakdown cellulose to produce sugars, that are then fermented into alcohol in a low pressure distillery. The process is environmentally safe and produces no hazardous materials. The by products of the process are electricity and lignin, that can be used to make soap.
11 Stinker stations in Idaho to offer biodiesel
Eleven Stinker gas stations in southwestern Idaho will begin pumping biodiesel next week. The stations upgraded their pumps and equipment to carry the environmentally friendly gas blend after receiving an $124,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy and the Idaho Department of Water Resources. The stations will offer a blend of 10 percent biofuel and 90 percent petroleum diesel.
Honda develops new way to make biofuel that could boost environmentally friendly cars
Honda Motor Co. has developed a way to make ethanol fuel from plant waste matter in a process that has the potential to expand the use of biofuels that fight global warming, the Japanese automaker said Thursday. Existing bio-ethanol production faces supply limits because it uses sugar and starch of sugarcane or from corn, both of which are also utilized as food. By tapping far greater supplies of inedible plant matter, such as stalks, leaves and rice straw, the new fuel takes a step toward making biofuels more practical, Tokyo-based Honda said in release.
D1 Oils to buy major site for biodiesel production, distribution on Merseyside
D1 Oils Plc said it is buying a major site at Bromborough in North West England for 3 mln stg for conversion to biodiesel production, storage and distribution. D1 said it expects initial capacity of 100,000 tonnes from conversion of the 47-acre site to biodiesel production in 2007, at an estimated capital cost that would be lower than full construction. The group plans to increase refinery capacity by a further 100,000 tonnes in 2008. Refining operations are anticipated to commence in 2007.
Bio-diesel company seeks Keene contract
A national bio-diesel company looking to move its headquarters to Nashua is in negotiations to overtake Keene's public works fleet fuel contract. The deal, which is in its early stages, would save the city money because an in-state company -- Amelot Alternative Energy, based in New York City -- would transport the fuel, which currently is being provided by a plant in Albany, N.Y. "I would much rather decide to purchase from an in-state buyer," said Steve Russell, Keene public works fleet services supervisor.
Cargill Earns Highest Quality Designation for Biodiesel Fuel
lthough new to biodiesel production in the United States, Cargill took measures while constructing its biodiesel facilities so that it could help ensure it meets the industry standard for quality. Cargill recently earned the distinction of Accredited Producer under the BQ-9000 voluntary quality assurance program. To date, 11 companies are BQ-9000 accredited, with another seven undergoing the process. Cargill's Iowa Falls, Iowa, location has produced biodiesel since May. The company reports 37.5 million gallons of capacity.
