Not just chicken feed
A few years ago, Bob Riley was thinking of slowing down, maybe retiring. Now, with the potential he sees for his company to add value to the biofuel industry, he can't wait to get to work in the morning. Riley, who 20 years ago bought Des Moines-based Feed Energy Co., has focused his company's efforts on developing value-added products from soybean oil co-products for agribusiness uses. Now, the company is using its scientific expertise to find new uses for the flood of co-products that will be produced by the booming biodiesel and ethanol industries. 
Clovis lands $16 million biodiesel plant
A $16 million biodiesel plant will move into the Clovis Industrial Park. City commissioners on Thursday approved an intent to issue industrial revenue bonds totaling up to $15.3 million for the plant, being developed by ARES Corp. of Burlingame, Calif. A company representative, Gerry Runte, told commissioners that construction is expected to begin later this year and that the plant could be in operating by mid-2007. Runte said it will produce 15 million gallons of biodiesel fuel each year, processing refined soybean oil with methanol and glycerin.
