East Fork Biodiesel readies for construction
A 60 MMgy biodiesel plant is readying to break ground in Iowa, solidifying the state’s role in the booming biofuels industry. The facility will process soy oil and animal fats. In addition to the biodiesel it will also produce approximately 6 MMgy of glycerin.

Increased Biofuel Production Expected to Alter Livestock Production Patterns
A research economist with the University of Minnesota predicts the recent massive growth of the US biofuel industry will result in some significant shifts in North American livestock production patterns.

Biodiesel plant should give Scots OSR demand a boost
Scottish arable farmers could benefit from an extra 250,000t demand for rapeseed if plans for a new biodiesel plant are given the go ahead. The 40m facility, pegged for construction on the former Royal Navy dockyard at Rosyth, Fife, would be Scotland's only domestic crushing plant and could improve farmer returns by up to 5/t.

Town defends biodiesel plant plan
Town officials on Tuesday defended a biodiesel processing plant proposed for the municipal industrial park, calling the pending venture to manufacture alternative fuel environmentally safe and capable of generating jobs and town revenue in the thousands of dollars. Representatives of Baltimore Biodiesel LLC Inc. of Columbia, Md., want to build a 5,600-square-foot Progress Lane processing facility that would produce an estimated 10,000 gallons of biodiesel from soybean oil - a $4 million capital venture that could generate up to $5,000 in town personal corporate personal taxes, Princess Anne Town Manager Jay Parker said.

Brazil, Britain to develop biofuel project in Africa
Brazil and Britain will jointly develop a project to produce ethanol from sugar canes as a fuel in Africa, ministers from the two countries said on Tuesday. Brazilian Development Minister Luiz Furlan and visiting British Secretary of State for Trade and Industry Alistair Darling told a news conference that a Britain-Brazil Trade Committee would present a proposal within 90 days on deriving ethanol from sugar canes. Furlan emphasized the need to "dispel the myth" that ethanol could damage motors.

Officials break ground on plant near Algona
Some soybean fields east of Algona are about to be replaced with a plant that will turn future bean crops into biodiesel. A few clumps of dry soil flying off golden-colored shovels Tuesday evening gave a formal start to the facility that will be the biggest biodiesel plant in Iowa, and perhaps, the nation. Shovel-wielding investors and elected officials broke ground for East Fork Biodiesel LLC in advance of construction crews set to arrive next week.

Marli Investments to Spend $16 Million On Bio-Diesel Plant
MARLI Investment Zambia Limited has committed to spend about US $16 million in a plant that will produce bio-diesel from jatropha. According to company public relations director Kamal Desai, the investment would be rolled over three years though the production of bio-diesel is likely to start next year.

Ritter Oil goes retail with Biodiesel
A new product is available for consumers in the Marked Tree area. Biodiesel is now available to retail customers wishing to take advantage of the more environmental friendly energy source. Actually, the product has been marketed for the last three years to farm customers of Ritter Oil, but now the fuel can be purchased by the general public at the Cenex station. “More and more interest has been generated for highway use of the product,” said Ron Creless, Ritter Oil marketing manager. “We thought it was time to introduce it and give people an alternative.”

Biodiesel No Silver Bullet for Crude Crisis
Despite all the hype about biodiesel as an alternative fuel source, biodiesel is not the death knell for the largely petroleum-based diesel fuels industry. In fact, the biodiesel movement may serve more to simply balance the competitive landscape than to tip the scales in favor of biofuels, and a newly proposed study by Kline and Company is set to determine exactly what impact biodiesels will have on the world stage. According to preliminary research for Kline's study, the supply of raw materials required for biodiesel to replace petroleum-based diesel is simply not available, even on a worldwide scale.
